On Sunday, one of my long-time trading students stopped by my house for a visit.<\/p>\n

I worked with this student over the last four years, but I hadn’t heard from him in several months.<\/p>\n

So when I opened my door, I had no idea what to expect.<\/p>\n

He was holding a bottle of single malt whisky, so I was scared that he’d blown up his trading accounts and needed to vent.<\/p>\n

After shaking hands, he handed me the bottle…<\/p>\n

But with a huge smile on his face, he told me he finally had his first fully profitable trading year in 2022… and wanted to use some of his profits to celebrate with me.<\/p>\n

I was so happy to hear this news and touched by his gesture, but what he told me next surprised me even more…<\/p>\n

He confessed, “Imre… if I never have another profitable trade and end up quitting trading for good, I’ll have not regretted a single minute of any of this.” <\/em><\/p>\n

Although I feel the same way, very few people have shared this sentiment with me.<\/p>\n

Coincidentally, they were all traders who had reached the promised land of consistent success.<\/p>\n

Good Trading Is a Mastery of the “Self”<\/h2>\n

You see, all traders start out with the same goal to make money.<\/p>\n

But what so many novice traders don’t understand is that to make money, you’ll need to first do some intense work on yourself.<\/p>\n

That’s because successful trading requires two distinct skills.<\/p>\n

The first is being able to analyze a market. You can think of good analysis as a mastery of observation.<\/p>\n

And then, there’s the actual skill of making money from your market analysis. This is what we all refer to as “trading.”<\/p>\n

Good trading is ultimately a mastery of the self.<\/p>\n

I know so many traders that are decent at calling the direction of the market… but they can’t consistently make money from their own ideas.<\/p>\n

That’s because they haven’t worked on mastering their emotions.<\/p>\n

Being able to follow a trading plan requires discipline and great emotional control – qualities that most of us don’t naturally possess.<\/p>\n

It takes time and a tremendous amount of effort to build the kind of discipline that trading demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
